Is intuition the result of being mindful or is it a psychic power or something else?
Ages ago I read a great book called "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin DeBecker. Great book about listening to that still small voice inside you to keep you out of a world of deep kimchee. DeBecker is a specialist is security for public figures. It isn't a psychic power, it is your brain seeing things you're not immediately aware of. Wonderful book. I strongly suggested my girls read it before they headed off to college. Every woman should read it IMHO. (or not especially humble)
I don't think it is either. It is just something the brain does while we aren't noticing.
Most of us have a feeling about how certain things should be dealt with. For instance, when we are lost and come to an intersection something may tell us which road to take. I always seem to take the wrong road.
Years ago I was with my girlfriend in Regensburg, Germany. We parked the car, went for a walk and found a nice restaurant and went inside for lunch. When we came out I had forgotten which way we came from and assured my girlfriend it was this way. As we were walking I was looking at the wall the town was famous for and not paying attention. My girlfriend kept nudging me and finally I looked at her and she laughed and pointed at the houses in which women were literally 'hanging' out the windows. We had come to the Red Light district of the town. So much for my gut feelings!
Lol
@JackPedigo I watched the Icelandic documentary you posted. Very interesting.
Knowing that you have to come up with more money to keep dating this woman.
It's following your gut. Listening to the little voice inside. Not over analyzing or over thinking anything, its that quick instinct. You know deep down whatever it is. It's like preconceived notions on something. It is hard to explain because its that not knowing but still deep down, you feel it, you sense it, you know it.
A lot of it comes from non-verbal communications. We don't consciously notice them but they register sub-consciously.
lol, Intuition is simply the act of figuring out what could likely happen when looking at the whole situation, or someone's actions. Intuition is based off of experience and usually just plain old common sense. You don't gotta be psychic to be able to tell when something isn't gonna go smoothly. Just look at the situation, use a little sensical reasoning, and recall what has happened in similar situations. I mean, COULD you be psychic and see the ACTUAL future? suuuuuure, but you don't really need it.
Yes, and I would to this that some people even subconsciously take in details that others don't, which aids their intuition.
lol, ADHD is an amazing thing. You see EVERYTHING.
It's the Sherlock Holmes of the senses. It is the thing that reads clues that you may not be aware that you are perceiving and adds them to the more conscious assessments. Or that is one theory.
I use the term to mean using patterns or cues from past experiences to shortcut the reasoning process. It is like going from step 1, to step 2, to step 3 - then sensing a cue or pattern, immediately going to step 10 or to a conclusion. My information processing style strengths lead me to use intuition like that very often.
I don't see it as a psychic power. I think its being mindful of others-not just your self. I tend to get intuition about people-when something is wrong/when they might have a problem/need someone to talk to.
