So my room mate is a Catholic and prays and goes to church, we played the powerball today and she was on her knees begging for a chance of becoming a millionaire. I told her, you're in good health, good job, good home with friends and people around that loves you, how are you not already a winner?? I wonder how many people are praying for self gain and superficial things when in fact they are better off than most. Makes me wonder. (Rant)
Thousands, if not millions of people play the lottery every day. Certainly at least a tenth probably pray to win. So firstly, if god was real, whom would he choose to reward? Secondly, as many people as there are who probably pray at every drawing, and as rarely as anyone wins, why waste the time?
Of course, I understand those who express the "you can't win if you don't play" thing, but really you pretty much can't win even if you do play. The odds are vastly in favor of the house. It's no better than throwing your money away at the casino. Better to just save your money somewhere you'll get interest.
I will occasionally buy lottery tickets. It's only a couple of bucks, and if I were to ever win, I could do a lot of good for the people and causes I care about. Plus, I'd like to visit Italy before I kick. I know the chances are pretty slim, but you can't win if you don't play.
In the immortal words of Han Solo, "Never tell me the odds!"
I play too, can't win if you don't...
Never bought a lottery ticket in my life. You're right-we take good health for granted, normal births, healthy children and safe home/good neighborhood. Self gain and superficial things just don't matter as much.
And you should have added, and your guardian angel said you aren't going to win.
She sounds like a twat
Maybe, then again, so do you. :/
no doubt as then again so do you
Prayer even when done for someone else is a selfish it really amounts to trying to feel good about yourself well doing nothing.
