Do you feel physically secure in today’s world?i

In the case of a national calamity such as electrical grid destruction, or massive storms and flooding, or nuclear attack, how secure do you feel?

Nope. Not in a country owned and run by the NRA.

Why worry about things you can't control? Have a survival kit handy and do the best you can. If there is a nuclear war it won't matter much how safe you feel.

I take enough meds (especially for high blood pressure, acid reflux and depression) that I will probably die shortly after I run out of them. I doubt I will want to live for long after such a long term disaster anyway. However, that being said, who knows how one will react when the survival mode engages; I could be one of those super-survivors, albeit with constant heartburn.

Under this administration, looking at how they failed Puerto Rico, I don't feel very secure at all.

4

I have made what I think to be reasonable security measures without letting fear of unknown possibilities consume me. Some may do more - some less.

Not all. We live with an impulsive mad man in the White House, who has brought out the neo-Nazis and white supremacists from hiding, is doing nothing about guns and is isolating us from our allies. It’s terrifying.

Nonsense, it's invigorating.
Gets the adrenaline flowing!!!!

In the case of apocalypse my best hope is dying quickly. Being disabled I wouldn't survive well for long.

Folks.......in these times, if you're not insecure, you're not paying attention. When the caps melt, it won't be the C02, it will be the methane, 10x (ish) as deadly. We have about 10 years before the end of the Anthropocene. Everything will die except for Kief Richards. Live well while you can. www.guymcpherson.

I have been thru two terror events. Multiple category 4 and 5 hurricanes. Riots. Mass mob hysteria riots/unrest. These things are all survivable (if you arent the one that got directly hit) by people staying calm as they can (in the face of being scared absolutely shitless) and working together to get past it to safety.

In one of the events above, not being able to see it but feel it at first, we thought that a nuclear weapon might have been set off, except that we were still present and not cooked.

When things get all "you loot/we shoot" is when it breaks down, and you can expect all sorts of trouble.

Pop culture has sold people a bunch of crap about "surviving" a nuclear exchange of a big variety, when there is no surviving it. Just one MIRV from one of our subs would be enough to do it. More than enough. Places like Chernobyl or Bikini Atoll will never be inhabitable again, and those were just low level tests and accidents

It IS disheartening isn’t it?

@ezwryder yes in that the bad actors among us have developed the means to destroy us pretty good and the danger of that is very real, and No that when these events happen, people that remember the social contracts between people , the unspoken ones, really step on up and pull together and look out for each other, and they are normal people. They don't have to be coppers or firemen, or soldiers.

Worried. I'm worried for the future because collectively, our ruling class are psychopaths.

They would rather have fascism over socialism and the inherent nature of capitalism means regular crises will occur, increasing the likelihood of fascism.

I posted this yesterday, but don't know where, so I'm posting it again today to make sure it gets read. I had always wanted to live on a wooded acreage, so a few years ago, I bought 18 1/2 acres of rolling countryside, which included several acres of hardwood timber and a home built into a hill with a 91 foot deck and one end of a one acre pond just 25 feet from the deck. There was a 500 gallon LP tank for the gas stove and furnace and I also installed a highly efficient wood burning stove. In addition, I had a water purifier with a million gallon life. My idea was to be self sustaining in case of electrical, or water outage (we were connected to a rural water system.) Sure enough, we had two weather related electrical outages, a water outage, and two weather related short term road blockages. In every case, we sailed right along with no problems, and it was a good feeling to know we could survive off grid with no problem. This period was the highlight of my life. We eventually moved back to town, but oh, how I miss that feeling of security. I'm thinking I'd like to find another acreage and move back, but my age tells me I shouldn't. My question to you is, have you thought about your preparedness? Have you taken even basic steps to prepare yourself for possible hard times? Maybe you should think about it.

I've been off grid for almost 40 years now. Solar for power, rain water through a filter, and wood for heat. The only "utility" is propane and if I can't get that well the wood stove will do. Lots of dried food stored and some gardening with the possibility of expanding that if necessary. I'm healthy but the only problem is if and when I can no longer do all this. Am not looking forward to moving to a town or city ever.

I feel pretty secure. I am not a person to be fearful. In my day to day life, I am not afraid of doing things alone. I drive across the country on my own without giving it a thought. I am old, but I am strong and feel able to handle what comes my way. I especially feel that way when I have my 120 pound Cane Corso with me. She is my backup and I am hers.I have lived alone for many years, and like it that way. As far as a disaster, I feel fairly secure. I live on a dirt road, on a farm, with chickens, ducks, geese, goats, pigs, a donkey and horses. We also have a veggie garden, our own well, and woods. My daughter and son in law have a wood stove,( it is their farm). We are thinking about solar and wind energy. Also thinking about places in the woods to keep the critters, to hide them. There is a root cellar, we butcher our own meat, and have friends that live fairly close who also have cattle. We all have skills that we can use to survive and barter. I have no idea how long I or my family could survive, but I think we have an edge.

What a great breed.

Wow! You ARE well situated! You are living the good life and I congratulate you! Keep up the good works!

I like the way you think. It looks like you’re doing all the right things!

There is a prepper group on here if you are interested.

My home is secure the only issue would be a freak tornado, but my main house dates to 1935 so I fell pretty secure. I'm not on a flood plane or close to one.
I have 4-6 months worth of food and a water purifier system if needed.
I have a huge garden and a seed bank.
I am well armed and skilled with weapons.
I have no health issues.
I have a large 4x4 pickup and live close to a huge wildlife refuge if bugging out became necessary. I also have all the camping gear and have scouted where I would hide my truck, where I would camp, and where I would garden. (thanks Google Earth!).

WOW! You have done some mighty good planning and I congratulate you!

Very prepared .

I have no issues with my security.

2

I am not worried. We survived Irma last year with no home damage, only loss of 2 trees

2

Not very. I'll be terribly sick without my meds.

Me too!! I wish we could he an extra 30 day supply for emergencies!

1

The only thing that would kill me would be pedaling away too slowly. Other than that, give me a mountain and I will live happily.

1

Pretty secure. We have gear, and a safe destination in place.

1

Seriously it's an issue. Once I'm at home I feel that I'm pretty good but as I walk to work, I look at all those girls out there and start comparing... then I'm insecure again!
Media is not helping either...

I am trying to get some advise. I am not feeling safe. I feel like I am at the mercy of my computer. Although I still feel physically safe, I am feeling pretty shakey in computer land. A few days ago, I clicked on the log out icon by mistake. I could not seem to log back on. It wanted me to start over again as a new person. I am very bad with computers, and I thought if I did that, I could find my wisewoman3 page and get back on. Well, that didn't work. I get notified actions under the name wisewoman3, but when I click on it, it takes me to the new page, where I am at a level 1. I can log onto wisewoman if I use my phone, but I can't if I use my computer. I have sent 3 messages to admin, but have gotten no answer. Am I doomed? Am I screwed with no kiss? Am I going to have to accept that I am now VickiZ, and start all over again? I am reduced to swearing. Any ideas anyone? Wah Wah Wah.

So far , at least , I've survived the Houston flooding , with ease , but I do believe there is worse to come . I also think I can survive the next round . Was without electricity for eleven days , earlier and survived that as well . I worry about where Trump's actions will land us. To the best of my knowledge there are no local nuclear plants . Texas is encouraging solar panels for homes , although I don't think homes could charge the entire grid for a long time to come , yet . I am concerned about Shareria (sp) Law . I'd likely be killed fighting against that . On the other hand , I've nearly reached the average life expectancy age for women in the US , so giving my life for that cause would be a great investment . Although my cupboards are stocked with some foods with future expiration dates , I set that up more with coming home from surgery and not being able to go grocery shopping for a period of time . Not with long term political intrigue , in mind . Unfortunately , one of the greatest threats for women in this country comes from their relationships with men . I've read that approximately nine out of ten times women are murdered , it was at the hands of some man in her life - husband , father , lover , brother , uncle , nephew , or perhaps a friend or a friend of a relative . At this point , my only close living male relative is too sick to accomplish that , although there were periods of time , when I honestly thought he had it in mind .

I welcome a near ELE. I would love to see the world population reduced by about 98%.

All well and good but why does it sound like you assume you would be part of the 2%?

@DotLewis no, I hope, but I don't assume. The odds are clearly not in my favor and Im ok with that. 2% or 98%, either way Im totally ok with it =D

Hoping that 98% of the population goes extinct seems a bit misanthropic. Why not giant skyscraper mall cities, or even people in space?

@rafferty because im a pragmatist, not a dreamer?
