I work for the state of Texas. It will be a paid day off for me. I think Dr. King was a great man that strived for peace. I pay him my respects.

I will most likely send a few letters or sign petitions about human rights issues. I read a biography of King and think of things many people do not know - he supported Planned Parenthood. When he got married in the 1950's, the word "obey" was not included in the wedding ceremony - a radical thing to do at that time. When his wife completed her degree, he did all the household chores - another thing not common at that time. He spoke out regarding money spent on wars that should be spent on people ... and lots of other things not commonly known. He was a person with Moral Courage. Of the books I have read by people who led civil rights organizations, the person I can identify with the most is James Farmer, leader of C.O.R.E. In his memoir, he states that he is a Humanist. That had to have taken some courage - many civil rights leaders were religious.

I'm going to work, but I'm not going to be doing what I normally do. I'm likely to go outside and count their inventory of about 700 pallets of rocks in freezing weather unless the incoming winter weather advisory dumps enough snow to cover the bottom pallets.

Mr. King was the victim of a cowardly act to which representatives of his own country were correctly found to be contributors guilty of his demise.

The garbage runs on MLK day the mail runs. Banks are closed. It is a national holiday. The garbage runs.

Now the reason he was in Memphis to support a strike by garbage men. It is generally accepted that he was shot by a man hired by the garbage companies.

Watch for it. Garbage runs on MLK day.

I don't celebrate holidays much anymore, I am retired, holiday is everyday. When party arrives... party I take.... but keep no altar for generals or "important" dates, including my BD.

The little ones are out of school, and I'm on duty.
Beyond that, I have no interest. I think the legend has far surpassed the truth.
He wasn't the only one who led, sacrificed, and died for Civil Rights.

I will congregate with union activists who honor the fight for garbage workers living wages the day Dr King JR was shot

I get the day off with pay.... and I will spend the day doing something peaceful.
