I agree and we desperately need to engage the young voting populace as well.

The key word in your statement is VOTERS! If only 50% or less of people vote, it only requires 26% or less of those voters to be religious bigots, white supremists, or Nazi sympathizers for our freedoms to be lost. And the government works very hard to get their voters out, puting polling places in churches, senior residences, and other places to make it most convenient for the wealthiest and faithful to cast ballots.
