LINK October is Domestic Violence Awareness month.

I am linking this as the first week a “green Version” of the paper is downloadable. Next week the separate articles are available.

6 years ago we got involved with Dvsas (Domestic Violence awareness San Juans – now SAFE). My partner joined the board and did a fund raiser which provided for a part-time advocate. At one time we had a program, 100 man standing, which asked for men to donate $100 and become advocates for the cause. I still remember the local sheriff and 3 deputies on our deck eating a Persian lunch. They were not small but she, 5’0” and 100lbs went around poking them to get on board. We made the goal and they helped. We also made silhouettes to represent women, men and children killed in the state. Then there were 26. The next year it went up to 28 and last year it was 51. This year it is 47 which included an islander, Shaw. In the photos the dark purple ones are the ones we made.

It should be every day.

Thank you for including us men in this issue. So many people think it's only a woman's problem, and men are only violent perpetrators.

Notice in the silhouettes there are men and children. Yes, women are the majority of victims and men are the ones who need convincing this is mostly their problem on several fronts.

@JackPedigo Uh, yea...that's why I posted a TY, because I did notice it. Second, I disagree that women are the majority of victims. Some research has been conducted that suggest women are actually more physical, but inflict much less damage typically. Allegations are also often ignored by police, or not even reported, for either genders.

@jondspen Some may be true. We even had a nationally reported killing of a husband by his wife in around 1980 right here on our island. But, I still strongly maintain that victims (meaning killings) are mostly by men against women. The numbers are simply too large to be ignored. Besides, sexual assault goes beyond just violence. We are seeing that today in abundance.
