The biggest environmental problem is that we have way too many humans on the planet. The best thing you can do is to not have children of your own. Adopt all you want.

You're ignoring the context under which people have kids. Five Africans have way less impact that one American. It's not the mere numbers but how they live. Capitalism creates economic insecurity that causes people to have more kids as insurance for when they get old. Socialist governments promote Public Health and birth control. Population is thus one symptom of the environmental problems of capitalism. Most importantly, capitalist rapaciousness directly causes environmental devastation.
