Female body hair. Have you examined your prejudices? I'm struggling to stop shaving, even though I accept that it's yet another inequality we should question. I'm slightly relieved by the history - when Gillette introduced the first "ladies'" razor in the 1930s only 20% of females shaved their armpits, legs, etc. Their magnificent advertising campaign (focussing on making women feel bad about themselves & their "embarrassing" body hair) increased this to 80% in just a few years. Do we really need to remove ALL our body hair so that when we're naked we look like pre-pubescent kids? And what does this say about men who like hairless pubes?
I do not particularly care for hairless pubes ,but I definitely would not be attracted to a woman with MORE hair on her legs than me.Some men have hair fettishes ,so in this case hairy is not scary
Ummmm I remember Scandinavians in the 90's, they shaved from the knee down and their hairy thighs where very Sexy to me. In the beach you saw those blond hairs shining under the Mediterranean sun. There is always a way to present and to appreciate everything. Everything!!!
I'm not interested in personal preferences - just trying to examine where they originate.
If you stop shaving I think you will find that there are a significant number of women who will look at you unfavorably for not doing so. Women can be worse critics of women than men. Other than that, like it or not, shaved armpits and legs are a beauty norm in our culture. If you go against that norm, you are risking disapproval...especially risky if you are hunting for a mate...would you like to risk offending the possible "love of your life"? I did not make the rules, I am just aware of them.
Oh jeebus! Groan & double groan! You've not only missed the point of this discussion, but are perpetuating prejudices who haven't even examined!
@GoldenDoll Maybe so, but I am but an observer of an incoherent culture. As for "perpetuating prejudices", you do give me too much credit...I doubt that I have had much effect on anyone.
@dahermit - maybe stop the observing & start participating. And don't give me those victim statements - I'm sure you have something valuable to offer, as we all do.
@GoldenDoll Maybe if you would be specific I would know exactly what you are talking about.
@dahermit - "examine your prejudices". That's the question - I'm afraid my prejudices don't allow me to converse with people who can't understand. Bye.
Don't care so much about the "pubes", maybe not even under the arms, so much; legs? Mmmm, don't think I could go for that in a relationship, personally. Not that the prospect will even present itself again in this lifetime.
Jeebus! I'm interested in the origin of our prejudices - not your personal preferences! YUCK!
@GoldenDoll programming, conditioning, whatever you want to call it. It appeared everyone else was expressing personal preferences, so I just went with that. Sorry if that somehow frustrated or offended you. And I think "prejudices" are reflected in my answer. Anyway, that's about it.
@Condor5 - "we were just following orders, like everyone else". Jeebus.
@GoldenDoll you seem like a very angry person. This is a topic I have hardly given a second thought to until now, and I just tried to answer honestly, there's no need to be surly. It's not of major importance in the world.
@Condor5 - wrong on all your "points" - I'm not angry, I'm just rude, & I have little patience with people who don't consider the question before they answer.
@GoldenDoll yeah, maybe take that up with your therapist. If you are looking for debate, maybe state that in your initial posting. This is beyond trivial, and I'm done with this thread. So long, and thanks for all the fish.
@Condor5 - yawn. Debate, yes. What did you think I was looking for - you? Bye
You know it's all a matter of personal preference you shouldnt do anything that you don't want to do it's just a matter of finding a partner who feels the same way me personally I do enjoy the whole hairless thing and I actually did that for my wife when we were married I took care of her shaving needs I loved doing it
now this is one of the reasons I love winter. No one sees my legs or pits for months. It's also one of the reasons that puts me off the pursuit of love. Too much maintenance. I don't want to get my nails done, I don't want to shave my legs (that aren't that hairy anyway) and I certainly don't want to shave my privates. It is just a fashion now just as tattoos are and perms were in the ''90s. And I have no interest in men who shave their chests, legs or scrotum. Hairier the better. It's a sign of testosterone.
I miss female body hair.
I think it would be a little shallow to care too much 20+ years ago my first few sexual partners had air, after that shaven was a novelty but now natural is kinda rare and its definitely appealing to me.
Is your body.
Another in depth answer. I think this is where we part company. Bye.
I stopped shaving my legs, body hair etc. years ago..but it doesn't grow anyway, so it doesn't matter.
Nor sure why, but could be from the hormone balancing herbs I take.
I also stopped wearing make up once I wasn't going to work, and that was a relief.
I'm interested in why, not what you do.
@GoldenDoll I don't subscribe to US/western razor stuff because I grew up in Haiti, which has both African and French cultures. Not only did they not wear make up or shave, they didn't wear deodorant. The same here in Thailand. I used to get long, dark leg hair when younger, but now my legs stay smooth and hair free.
I do wear deodorant because, unlike the Thai and Haitians, I get B.O. but my dad and brothers have enough Native American manifesting that they don't have to use it, and seldom shave either.
My daughter uses tea tree oil for deodorant, and also doesn't shave.
@birdingnut Please read my previous reply. It's not about what you do!
Personally I've never worried whether my gf had hair on her legs or under-arms - the adverts are all hype to sell shaving products IMO. But I do enjoy oral sex and when everything is hairy down there is is pretty awkward and uncomfortable for me. I don't force anyone to do anything but in my experience the less hair, the better the sensations for me and her. Doesn't have to be shaved like a porn-star ... a trim is fine and I return the favour by trimming mine.
So, to be more specific ... no you don't have to shave and I have no idea why guys want "bald" but it might not be for the reason you think ... maybe some here will say.
I asked why, not what.
Body hair is up to the individual. I find hairy pits quite alluring
Yes, but I'm interested in WHY you feel that way.
Have a friend who has alopecia she has no hair at all, no eyebrows nothing. I think many women would be happy to have it neck down, their partners might agree too.
But not me.
Fist off, I've been with women that are completely shaved, not a pube in site, I've also been with women that don't shave at all, I don't care for either myself, I prefer groomed to hairless/unshaved, personally I groom
I Don't Care What You Like! Why do most of the men on here think I'm asking for they're personal preferences! Read the question - it's not always all about you!
Look ultimately 'your body your rules' but I guess I come at it a little differently. I'm a huge bodybuilding fan and a hairless body shows the muscles better. Doesn't mean every bodybuilder is hairless year round but if you wanna show what you got you better be smooth-skinned. I agree with most folks here: hairless pubes make me think of child molestation but then again I'm 55 and I'm used to women with pubes. One more thing: us men get hairier as we get older and every year I more closely resemble a grizzly. I shave my entire head, I look better bald rather than balding, but it would take hours to shave my entire body. Interesting post.
Sod that the hairs were not glued on and all humans have the same amount of hair as a chimp just in different thicknesses. it's just personal choice. I dislike woman without pubes. why do they think it's dirty yet grow loads out of there head? I don't like the little girl look down below or the little boy look either.
This question is not about what you like.
well, i thought we agreed. I no the question now." Have you examined your prejudices? " the answer is no I don't think I have any but if I do, no I haven't.
Do we really need to remove ALL our body hair? no.
is that more correct @GoldenDoll
Golden doll, men have been called disgusting for facial hair. Even some cultures. And what prejudices? Well beside the sexual orientation one (im sorry but.....vaginas are just yucky to me). Nit everyone fits what you think. Youre only yourself. I personally dgaf about women shaving or not.
I like women with body hair but not on face. It's a turn off. But some might like that too. By the way do you like men hair body. I am wondering why these days so many men do not keep body hair.
I'm trying to examine our prejudices & where they come from. Not likes & dislikes.
i decide what i like on my body & what i don't (being fortunate enough to not growing armpit bushes at all!). when i moved to australia 16 years ago i wasn't aware of how common shaved legs were here. yet living in a shire now were even bearded women (well, one!) aren't frowned upon, i decided i like to remove my leg stubble, plucking it since then ... less & less each year. oh, & the nose hair, of coarse
You see your comment "being fortunate enough ..." bothers me - why is that fortunate - I'm trying too examine prejudices.
@GoldenDoll, it is fortunate to me. that surely will suffice. i have a natural respect for everyone's personal choice - as long as it doesn't interfere hurtfully with someone else's.
After having two partners get arrested for child crimes (ex husband for sexual assault on a minor and an ex boyfriend for child porn) who demanded it, I refuse to shave my pubic hair. Other than that, if I'm dating I'm shaved (my preference). If I'm not dating I see no reason to go through the trouble.
I'm sorry you had those experiences..
........what about women who preffer men to be shaven? How is it inequality maam? What if it ckmes down to personal preference in people?
Nobody's ever told a man they look disgusting with facial hair. That's the difference. Men have always had choices. Women not so much.
And I'm trying to examine our prejudices & where they originate - not personal preferences.
To be honest, I cringe with overly hairy legs on a woman, or hairy underarms.
Waxing and shaving the pubes is fine as a novelty, a friend of mine who prefers to be smooth and shiny down there mentioned once she thought guys preferred it as reminiscent of prepubescence, I lost my shit, almost threw up the thought was so abhorrent. So have asked her to leave at least just a bit of fur. She does mostly, but if I haven't seen her for a year or so, it is gone again, she says for bikinis and such.
Wow. "She thought men preferred it"
That's pretty telling.
@GoldenDoll I like, but it depends on he woman too, but it was the reasoning that shocked me. It was a bit like someone saying I like bananas because they are phallic or a woman saying they like small penises because deep down they fancy little boys. I know this sounds sick, and that is how her comment struck me.
I remember reading a sci-fi short story 30+ years ago of a planet where women had developed lower legs covered with luxurious thick hair similar to a cat's fur. Sadly I cannot recall author or story title, hopefully someone will refresh my memory. As I remember however a naked leg (hairless) was scorned and derided.
Over recent years there have been a plethora of projects researching psychological, social and hygienic aspects of beards. Some I have introduced in some of my replies to previous responses. I wonder, looking at some of them, the intelligence determining research subject matter, the waste of research funds compared to other avenues and what possible benefit came from the research apart from titillation of tabloid newspaper staff and their readers!
I have watched with amusement usually the argument against clean hairless pubic mounds. These seemingly are espoused by rabid feminists, women with insecurities and women disliking the mode. They have been creating the social angst of subconscious paedophilia to persuade others to join in their folies. Not too many years ago it was reasonable practice for people to marry below the age of ten and in some places it still occurs. Personally I do not enjoy having my teeth flossed with pubic hair when enjoying cunnilingus. The breaker however is whether you smell like an old urine soaked /fly blown sheep or a fresh mountain stream!
I will conclude by sharing thought arising from observation made by a transgender (woman to man) who stated that "he much preferred daily shaving to monthly menstruation". He missed the first 25 years.
Whoa! God made so many mistakes! Female pubic hair! The male foreskin! The appendix! Sheesh - don't you & the women you shag know about washing?
@GoldenDoll
Who determined God made anything?
Who determined that they are mistakes? Have you read the following great article by a young American woman:
[madsciencewriter.blogspot.co.id]
It seems to me that many people are frequently so used to their odour or do not care that they obviously don't wash. Personally I have always been very conscious of the build up of smegma and cleaned it away. Perhaps it is a side effect of menstruation that men have no conditioning to.
Women, at some point or other in your life you are in competition with other women for men...do you really want to give the advantage for attracting some perceived "dream boat" to a woman who does shave her legs and armpits? Of course not...that is why you go through a troublesome beauty routine. Of course, you can forgo shaving once married with children...but then why do you think men leave their wives for someone 10-20 years younger who do shave their legs?
Yikes! We live in different worlds! "In competition with other women for men"? Thats disgusting &0shows how little you know about women. Men need women. But you just stay in your Male Superiority Fantasy World if it makes you happy.
