This reminds me of an excellent article in "The Atlantic". "The Birth of a New Aristocracy"[theatlantic.com]

Shocking to read, but not at all a surprise. There would need to be a concerted effort by all governments to crack down on the super rich and not allow them to employ the ruses and expoit the loopholes in the various tax systems around the world. The greed which some of these über wealthy display is grotesque, just how much money they think they need is beyond belief. The “idle rich” is not a title that was dreamt up recently, but it’s been around for a century or so....the difference is that they are getting richer whilst the poor are getting poorer. Governments punish the poor by cutting welfare programmes and reward the rich by cutting taxes....the actual reverse of what is necessary to help redress the wealth disparity. It is no wonder revolutions have happened in the past and maybe we should think carefully about the consequences of not paying heed to the increasing imbalance between the rich and poor in today’s society unless we want history to repeat itself.

I have my doubts. It's amazing what people can get used to, and we are a society that only really wants to be entertained. I don't think we'll see a revolution, as much as I hope we do. We're not outraged enough.

@Nottheonlyone When the middle classes see that they are not getting richer than their parents and can’t get on the housing ladder because house prices are being pushed up by the rich buying them to rent out, and they have to cut back on the number of holidays they can afford to take...well perhaps a different kind of revolution will happen, at the ballot box. The poor will never be listened to as they are powerless...what they need are political leaders who will champion their needs and prioritise human dignity over greed.

@Marionville I really hope that happens. Truly.

@Nottheonlyone Me too, but there are not too many great leaders around...in fact none!

@Marionville I'm hoping to see a younger, more diverse government in the near future. Let's just hope they don't get corrupted, as well.

@Nottheonlyone Hope you get the change.....whether they will end up like all their predecessors....well ?

@Marionville Right?
