I am excited about yesterday's tesla car sent to mars!
Actually, it's not going to Mars. That's a common misconception. It's on it's way around the sun, past Mars and, on a continuing journey through space that will potentially last billions of years. But, I am equally excited about this launch!
Why do people think it's going to Mars? It may have overshot slightly, but it was never going to Mars anyway, and Musk never said it was.
so do i..
@Basem Having read a bit more information on it's original destination, I do think I know where that perception came from. It was originally intended to go into a "Mars" orbit. Not an orbit around Mars but, an orbit around the sun at approximately the same distance as Mars. Apparently though, it's final burn will have it overshooting that orbit and will most likely land it somewhere in the asteroid belt instead where it will continue to orbit indefinitely (providing it doesn't hit anything else while it's out there).
Mars is mentioned as this is part of the dream, Elon wishes to be buried on Mars and we are working on a lunar station requiring efficient , reusable rockets, Now the landing of the two fuel containers was just amazing. The accuracy and smoothness was all there
