When creating a Group, if you want people to find your group you need to enter a list of "key words" that people interested in your group are likely to search for. Otherwise, the only way someone will find your group is by scrolling down the entire groups listing until they accidently stumble onto your group.

I myself usually navigate directly to the discussion page, but you can click on the Agnositc.com at the top (from anywhere on the site) and it will bring you to a kind of homepage and the groups button was an the far right of the screen.
