Agreed. Bible Christianity was much more prevalent in society then. The Deists of that day would no doubt have been atheists in this day.
And yet there are Christians today who feel 'marginalized' if not, under siege!
Ben Franklin, one of the most beloved and internationally renowned citizens of the Colonial Period, and who was also a Deist, could have made this list. It was fateful for the United States that its establishment, including a Constitution void of any deity, came at this period in history which has been called, the Age of Enlightenment. Truly another neo-classical age of reason, critical thinking and rational thought is needed in the 21st century, or we risk not making it through the 22nd.
