I've run across stories of old European nunneries where they excavate the cellar for some maintenance or construction purpose and find the bones of infants and/or fetuses that can be dated back hundreds of years -- in other words they were systematically concealing pregnancies and discarding the children. And not just a few, it's in sufficient quantities to establish that it was a common practice over a period of time. I would imagine that it was also structured so as to extract the most Catholic guilt out of the nuns, too. Victims all around.

This dis-organization has been around almost two millennia and maybe this activity is what has attracted so many to it. Hopefully, it will also be it's undoing! Problem is, there are so many fearful people who will remain 'loyal' no matter how bad it gets.
