This is where evolution and creationism cross paths. The question sounds idiotic! But then you remember ' "If a tree falls in the forest and nobody hears it or sees it did it really happen."
That shook a few out of the trees. Could be all a dream!
You can't have primacy of consciousness unless you are all happy to cease in your existence when I die.
The primacy of existence states the irrefutable truth that existence is primary and consciousness is secondary. Consciousness is the faculty which perceives and identifies things that exist. For two reasons existence is primary, that consciousness requires existence, and that there is no consciousness without existence.
Because consciousness identifies existents, there can be no consciousness without something existing to perceive. Nothing can have an identity (to be identified) without existing. The fact that something is identified necessarily implies its existence which necessarily implies existence in general. Thus there is no consciousness without existence.
Consciousness is not responsible for creating reality or creating an individual reality. It is completely dependent upon reality. Existence is primary because it is independent of, makes possible, and is a prerequisite of consciousness.
All forms of mysticism derive from the false premise of the primacy of consciousness, which is demonstratively false. As is the assertion that existence somehow requires consciousness.
Pretty much derived from Bacon, more so than a triple bacon cheeseburger.
Do you not see the lunacy of it all. Zero point. We are merely (if we exist at all) slaves to our inner master the selfish gene. Whose continuance relies solely on the next gen procreating the rest is pretty much white noise.
@the8thyamger Generally, yes. But given that our perception neither precedes nor succeeds us we cannot perceive anything that is outside our existence, so no matter how you choose to consider things, makes no difference. All you have are the seconds that make up your life, a human life is measured in time
The answer to the tree question is very human-centric. it makes the assumption that there are no bugs or Birds or other animals that would hear it, notice it, get squished by it, or make use of the Dead wood as a home or food. The same goes for the man versus Universe question. did the universe exist before humans evolved into being? Of course it did, the Earth itself was here for millions of years before humans or even hominids walked the Earth.
No it did not. Without our consciousness there is no existence period. Depending on how you define sound, it does or it doesnt. Existentialism has always had trouble with the question of, if man simply is, are not other things that are
