FTA: America is the most religious country in the developed world. And a lot of people here are NOT down with atheists. Check this out: 40% of Americans wouldn't vote for an atheist for president. 44% wouldn't want their kid to marry one. 45% say belief in God is necessary to have good values. But the number of non-believers is on the rise. Is religion on its way out? And do you really need religion to live a moral life?
My favorite was a sign in front of a church in my town that had the following message (get ready to groan): CH CH What's Missing? U R ( I told you it was a groaner.....ha ha)

Oh, I see. Well, prolly me neither.
Most scholars see a SLOW trend towards secularization in the US. The slow part is maddening.
And just because a person marks the box "non-affiliated" does not mean they are non-believers. They just haven't formally joined a congregation at a church/synagogue/mosque. I compare it to online shopping....don't need the physical store to shop in anymore...they may still be 'spiritual' and 'believers' anyway but not attend religious services.
