There are enough bits of evidence that there have been civilisations pre-existing the dawn of history that have absolutely no explanation, that the question what were they will unlikely ever be answered, As to where we came from, evolution holds the best explanation so far. And what are we doing here, well making a mess of the only place we can call home at the moment.
