Adding to Josh's point, in a labour market with limited job opportunities only the best and most creative will be sought out and hired based on their skills and knowledge. But, in actuality, many people will get jobs due to their social capital, that is their NETWORKS people they know or people of people they know. A few get lucky and find a job on their own by chance, but most of the jobs are in the HIDDEN job market and you need to know people. It sucks but it is true.
