Interesting article. Religion has done a good job of instilling guilt in believers with the ridiculous story of original sin.
We are programmed by evolution from our hunter gatherer days to enjoy sweet foods which were originally only fruit and honey which were only available at certain times of the year.
We are now bombarded by advertising from the manufacturers of sugary food which is harmful. We have made token efforts at removing temptation by taking sweets away from checkouts in stores and regulating advertising but those manufacturers are very powerful and influential.
I can't argue with the self control part of the argument just the initial idea that we should want a deterrent against knowledge.
I didn't get that from the article myself. Maybe I should go back and read it again.
