Mass killings

What is really considered a mass shooting? 12 people unfortunately shot this past weekend in Virginia, the News personnel keep referring to it as Mass killings that continue to plague the country.

Thank you all for the input . I was just thinking about how certain incidents are reported based on perception is all .

I think a mass shooting is when four or more are shot and injured or killed.

For me, I'd consider a mass killing to be three or more. Which is also the number to qualify for serial murder. However, I do nto think there is an "official" universal standard for how many victims makes for a "mass shooting".
