Supreme Court Kills Virginia's Racial Gerrymandering

Good news!

"The Virginia House of Delegates’ racial gerrymander is officially dead—killed off by a 5–4 Supreme Court ruling on Monday that seems to clear the way for a potential Democratic sweep of the Virginia Legislature in November."

It's still scary how tight these wins squeak by. You would think we would all want voting to be more fair.

I live in a VA district in which one of our largest liberal colleges is conveniently missing … a literal hole in the district.. Same with it’s most progressive city.. This stuff needs to end ~

I hope this is a pattern for all the other Gerrymander lawsuits.

I was really surprised by that decision coming from a court packed with conservatives. What a happy surprise!! And Clarence Thomas was the swing vote? Unbelievable!

@ToolGuy You could be right. He may be thinking about retirement and cutting down on the koolade

This is good news indeed. I hope gerrymandering is a thing of the past soon.

I also wonder at what point, what year it will be exactly, when racism no longer exists. I hope it's in my lifetime.

Gerrymandering is just not fair for anyone...I understand needing to redraw the lines due to population increases and changes but when you see some of the lines, it is so obvious what the intent is...this has to happen throughout our states...our state just fixed this problem...
