Great discoveries always start out as theories. Hawkins was a theoretical physicist and came up with brilliant ideas. His ideas on Black Holes opened a whole slew of discoveries. we still haven't proven ideas from Einstein an that does't make him irrelevant. I am watching a PBS showing of his life and I wonder how many of us would press on given the conditions he lived with. To me that alone made him great.

To those religious fanatical, fearmongering, dunderheaded, sheep who say he is in hell i say hell is a place for them. He is now free from hell.
