Juicy, Ground White Turkey Burgers

Bored with my usual cooking, yesterday I made up this recipe. Delicious!

1 lb. ground white turkey (I use 99% fat-free)

½ cup sweet onion, finely chopped

1 clove garlic, finely chopped

1/8 cup bread crumbs, Italian style

1 teaspoon soy sauce, less sodium

½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 large egg, beaten

2 teaspoons dried Italian parsley

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon pepper

1 tablespoon oil (I use grapeseed oil)

  1. Heat nonstick fry pan on low-medium heat.
  2. In a large bowl, beat together egg, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce.
  3. Remove plastic wrap from ground turkey. With a sharp knife, cut ground turkey into small pieces lengthwise and widthwise.
  4. Crumble turkey into bowl with wet ingredients. Add bread crumbs, onion, garlic, dried parsley, salt and pepper. Mix gently until combined.
  5. Add oil to hot pan. Heat oil. Spread oil evenly on the bottom and sides of pan.
  6. With your hands, form 1/3 cup of turkey mixture into balls. Flatten into patties. With your finger, poke a deep indention in the center of each patty so the center cooks.
  7. Cook until browned, turning once, until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.

Does specifying the meat colour make this a racist recipe?

@ShadowAmicus

Silly man!

I don't like dark meat in chicken or turkey. Only white aka breast meat.

The seasoning sounds wonderful. For my taste, I'd have to add a lot of fat to the meat. Have you ever done so?

@Mitch07102

You can use higher fat white ground turkey. Or add a dash of oil.

Because I hike and run so much, I'm not downloading enough calories to support the calories I burn. This week, I hiked 15.5 miles total with 4,000' of elevation gain on Tues. & Thursday. You should see my legs!

For extra calories, I melted cheese on top of one in the microwave. Delicious.
