Have you ever regretted the time you have wasted?

Have you ever regretted the time you have wasted and wished you could retrieve it to do something better with it. At my age i look back a number of times and said to myself gee, i should have done this or that. I regret so many things I did or did not do. Am I unusual or is this the norm for people?

“I see it all perfectly; there are two possible situations — one can either do this or that. My honest opinion and my friendly advice is this: do it or do not do it — you will regret both.” - Søren Kierkegaard, Either/Or: A Fragment of Life

Of course. But not until later, in hindsight.

Regrets? I've had a few. But then again, too few to mention 🙂

Great

I think it's normal to some degree to regret, but for the most part I feel every mistake has made me stronger.

Great way to approach it.

I don't have regrets of any actions or decisions in my past... But the way you asked made me realize I do regret "wasted time". Right now I am sitting on a couch playing on my phone . I've spent a lot of time doing boring things when I could be living life in a better way. That I could say I regret.

I think we all have regrets, but that's good; it means we learn from the past and make better decisions in the future, as long as we don't dwell on our mistakes. So, when I think I wasted time and see that it could have been time used for something valuable, I use that knowledge to decide whether I should relax this weekend or spend it doing something new or productive or connecting with a friend, etc.

I have tried to learn but some how that does not fulfill my feelings that I should have done more somehow.

I get that, for sure. But remind yourself that the past is immutable, that it was practice for now, and that you're a different person than you were then and better for those experiences. I think you'll find some peace of mind if you can focus your attention on the present. Remember, right here, right now, this is all any of us has. Don't dwell on things you can't change, and focus on what you can.

Luck is important for survival in half decent shape. The rest lessons learnt as we watch a paper boat float under the bridge. Let it slide...

I really do not understand what is luck!

No. I regret nothing in life. They were life lessons, everything that happened. I am who I am today because of the lessons in life.

I guess so but I still wish there coould be some way to regain wasted time.

We all regret some things we have done and wish that we had sometimes acted differently. But, I don't dwell on it, as to do so is futile. I cannot go back and change those things. I can only move forward from here and now.

Hi Bob... theres a number of regrets for me. Im still recovering from some of the stupid mistakes I've made. Your normal brother. I always wanted to pilot a gyrocopter. I did that and it was awesome. At one gathering i sat in a briefing with some of the most popular pilots on our forum for rotorheads. I felt so special being part of it. Theres a number of things i want to do now that im retired. Thats why i chose buckethead as my title. The wife and i are going to explore the united states. We've done enough cruises. Have i wasted my time? I don't think so. Im here and alive and retired. I think it fell in place for me. I experienced just about everything . Pain, laughter, sad , and happiness. Would i do it different. No. I just want live a little and die. Real simple for me.

Sounds real nice. We too have done a lot of travel and the value one experiences is so wonderful. Keep it going

There are things that I have done that I wish I haven't, however each "mistake" I've made brought me to where I am today. So, no, I have no regrets.

I believe it's the norm, but that begs the question of what is time wasted? Often times I ask myself this question. Is down time wasted? Is relaxing and conversing/relating to people wasted? I don't know that it's a productive use of your time to think about it. It's water under the bridge so to say. Try to be more productive in the present if you feel like you have wasted so much time in the past.

2

Oh, definitely. Many times I have said "if only I had done..." to myself. But, as I don't know how different decisions would have impacted my life, I cannot say I would do things differently if given the chance. Who knows, perhaps a differently made decision years ago, even though it seemed to be a good one at the time, would have eventually led to something negative happening--like my early demise. Life is to be lived in the present--looking forward--and not worrying about the past and dwelling on "what might have been." Although, hopefully, we have learned lessons along the way.

100%, I like to time travel back to 2002 and use all that wasted times

I regret my entire life. 27 years held in a prison by insane people and conditioned with lies. I regret ever setting foot in a church. I regret being shy with all the women in my youth. I regret going to school. I regret being born to commercialism. I regret being born in the suburbs. I regret being born in this country, at this time in history. I regret not physically attacking my parents and my bullies at school.
I'm not sure that i would have or could have done anything different, but man, has this whole life been a massive fucking shit storm of shit. Nothing seems to work out for me. It's a wonder i still have anywhere to go. It sure seems like the world is full of insane morons with guns and i'm really not certain why i have to go through all of this. I'm not even sure tall, smart, pretty women even exist. Maybe some corporation just created them as a symbol to enslave other men.
I should have been a supervillain.

Same here I regert everything specailly that i could never confesse to girl that I LOved that she was a merical

You're down on yourself. Think about all the things you wouldn't know if you hadn't lived the life you have. The positive and negative experiences. Examine the positives.

@roberbro is a good example.

I appreciate that, but my entire life has been a lesson in how worthless and evil this culture is, and everything i love is taken from me and forbidden to me. I am still waiting for any of it to pay off, and i don't know the way out.

JHeyoka Take your experiences turn them around and make your own good things happen. I was fired because of a moral dispute however I found the best job I had halfway through my working career. I almost did not marry i woman I loved because of religion we compromised and now are awaiting our 58 year together, In a nut shell you make your own breaks!

Gentlemen you make your own breaks by taking hold of your lifes. Look where you have gone wrong correct and try to fine some positive breaks. We even have a service on here to meet new people but be honest with them and perhaps what you were looking for may just come your way. It may be hard but be positive as the opposite will definally get you no where!!!

Looking back, I regret some of the choices I have made, but in most cases they were the best i was able to do at the time with what little knowledge I had. Some choices may in retrospect look as if they were a waste of time, but I choose to look at it as a learnign process. Had I not made those choices and learned from them, would I be looking back and regretting those choices had I not made those choices and learned better?

Uniformed (bad) choices = learning opportunities

Wasted time = time to gather one's thoughts.

Time wasted is a consequence of mistakes made. I regret mistakes I made and things I should or shouldn’t have done or things I should or shouldn’t have said. We all make mistakes and have to live with the consequences. It’s the folks that blame others for their mistakes that I might have a problem with.
