The problem(s) with charter schools generally begins with that they get to pick their students. When first established they pick the best and brightest, so their initial test scores are high. However, because they are a "for profit" school, they are constantly making cut backs to increase profits, which short changes the kids education. In the end charter schools, after a few years will score lower than their public school counter parts, even though they have what were originally the best students. A few well connected people get rich, while over all education suffers. This has contributed greatly to the dumbing sown of America."
