A another misconception is that we are basically amoral. And sure, those types exist, at what percentage I have no clue, but a great many subscribe to Humanistic principles which in many respects are definitely superior to religious morality. Was it not modern day secular values which are largely responsible the for the ethical advancements we have made as a society: equal rights without regard to gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation, the humane treatment of animals, the abolition of cruel & unsual punishments, and advocating for the rights of children.

Yeah. The religious propaganda has permeated society. However, if you look at actual statistics, atheists are far mroe law abiding than religious persons on a per capita basis. Atheists are grossly under represented in prisons, bcause they simply aren't as evil minded as religious persons.

Those people who make that assumption are "true believers" who see us as threatening the thing they have sold their souls to. We scare them.

is it right that most practicing christians view all muslims as terrorists? how about republicans who view all democrats as bad? vice versa? what I find amusing is that you say society as if most people out there in the world are christian. maybe it's just my region, but it is with great pride and jubilation that i inform you that THEY are the minority, and what you are witnessing is the 'not going quietly into the night while going quietly into the night' fall of a christian nation. we've conquered the bigger slice of the pie! now it is what we do with that pie that holds my interest

Yes, frustrating.

Religious people are inept and blind followers, which according to them is the way of life. As far as my experience goes, religious people end up assuming atheists to be just another group of people who do not believe is their religion and believe in something else, same other people who worship other religions, thus, end up hating us. Simple example is Hindus vs Muslims, but in our case, it’s all religions vs atheists.
My opinion would be take down these kind of people with humility and compassion. They see us as desolate and lost, they see us as the work of the devil. Keep an open mind, listen to them, but you’re free to disagree without getting angry or violent, simply because you’re a better person.

Tell them to do unprejudiced research on their books and after that they are not going to judge you any more.
