POLL Coronavirus live updates: China says death toll hits 259, confirmed cases rise to 11,791

The death toll and confirmed cases are rising. I even read an article saying that people in Shanghai, China are throwing pets out of multi storey building to their deaths due to the claim that the virus is being spread from animals.

Would you throw your pet to it's death in this scenario?

That's terrible. No, I would not throw my pet out of a building and have it die a gruesome death. If losing my pet meant preventing the virus from spreading then I would take it to the vet and have it humanely put down.
