Just like Hitler, Trump comes from a "IT'S THEIR FAULT" position. Hitler had the Jewish people, trump has the THEM....it's THEM position
No doubt that Trump loves to blame other people for everything he thinks is wrong with America. And he never blames White people or White Christians for anything. It's the Muslims, The Mexicans, it's the Chinese. He always groups people and stereotypes them and then attacks them. I think if you still vote for him after he does this time and time again you are a racist on some level.
Yes.
However, I believe he seduced a broad range of groups with his rhetoric, because he tapped into so many broken areas of the establishment. People were willing to overlook the things they didn't like about him to benefit from the things they believed he would change.
In other words, some people voted for him because of his racism, and others didn't vote against him because of it, because he promised change in other ways that appealed to them.
He did promise change on things like "Trade agreements" and appealed to people that have not been able to cope or adapt to a world of disruption, both economically and socially. But you then have to overlook all his racist policies to vote for him. And all that racist stuff does not seem to bother these voters. They choose to overlook it. So it does come back to racism in the end at some level
@Athena If you are not Highly bothered by racism......maybe you are a racist. It's been said so many times. It's not the willingness of some people to stand up and support someone who is racist that is the problem. It's when good men stand by and do nothing. Trumps racism should have disgusted people so much that they should have come out and voted for ANYONE to keep him out of office.
I'm not sure if "you" is being used as a generalization or specific to me.
I was referring specifically to why Trump won the election and how racism would have played a part, but how it could have also been overlooked by those who felt desperate to resolve some of the other issues he made promises about.
If you're accusing me personally of being a racist, I don't see how you made that correlation based on what I said, as it was not representing how I would have voted but how an American voter could have been swayed in Trump's direction .. I speak openly here about my disdain for racism.
@Athena I am in NO WAY saying you are racist. Sorry if it came across that way. I was not being specific to you. I would never accuse anyone of being racist unless they said something that was obviously racist. Nothing you said would even give me an impression of that. Sorry again.
The Term"you" was a general term I used and not specific to YOU. Reading it now I can see how you could have seen it like that. WOOPS. I'll be more careful in future.
@Athena And I've had a lot of Privilege in my life to. All that's important is that we recognise this and do what we can in life to help those less fortunate that us. And I totally agree with you about racism. It's the one thing that I detest the most in life. Intolerance of somebody because they are different is upsetting to me to say the least.
Evertime it seems like hes losing people he rants about brown immigrants and he brings them all back.
This is one of the most frustrating things about Trump. The more intolerance and racist he gets the more support he seems to get. He certainly has never lost support when he does this. It tells you a lot about the people who vote for him
Not actual racism, not at first, bigotry yes, nationalism definitely, popularism and catering to the lowest base instincts of morons, like a champion yup.
Racism was an added bonus sneaked in later just to sweeten the deal with all the hate mongering filth...ooops sorry "very fine people" he relies on to keep his numbers up.
Not at First??. I can't remember a time when he did not use race to appeal to people. Right from the start it was all about immigration and "The wall"
@dermot235 did you actually read past the opening six words of my post?
@LenHazell53 No, I read it. I just disagree with it. That's all
Yes, Trump's racism rhetoric brought out the silent white majority out to vote. I have said before what media does not talk openly for political correctness... "The white backlash against the black president for 8 years helped Trump win." Hillary's ability to turn off Democratic voters was a bigger reason.
Hillary did get the popular vote. We should always remember that. But With a candidate like Trump she should have been able to do better. I do believe that women are held to a higher standard than men and I think that helped Trump by making Democratic voters less likely to come out and vote. So misogyny played a role here too in my view. "emails". There is no way a man would have been attacked like that for an email issue
