Aa much as you love pancakes, you really need to visit the Netherlands. Pancakes everywhere, for every meal, with all kinds of toppings. The Dutch know how to pancake.
Side note, my first trip to Kenya I was super excited when my host mom said we'd have pancakes for breakfast the next day... typical breakfast there was an egg and toast, but the next morning what I find out were Kenyan pancakes were actually much more like crepes. Still didn't complain. They were the best Kenyan pancakes ever. 😁

@hankster maybe that's why I loved Dutch food so much.🤔
Swahili for pancake is pamba, I think. Pamba means lots of things. They called them pancakes.😁

@Amzungu Also commonly used is the Indian word, "chapati". This is especially prevalent in Uganda, where Swahili is not so widely spoken.

@Petter I'd only ever heard chapati used for the savory flat bread? Which is delicious. We'd have 'parties' at the orphanage and spend the whole day making chapati for 250 kids. For some reason, I was the only mzungu they'd let in the kitchen, but those were some of my favorite days.

@Amzungu In Round Table, (similar to the Active 20/30 clubs of the US) we had a regular food kitchen we supported, both physically and financially.
It's amazing how many children could be fed on a smallish budget. For instance by going round local markets in the evening and haggling/cajoling traders for ultra cheap/free produce that was no longer all that fresh, but still usable, be it bananas, tomatoes or sukuma wiki.
All it takes is effort on your part.

@amzungu
one never stands so tall as when kneeling to help a child.

@hankster Better yet, ask for samosas. The crispy, spicy Kenya ones are the best and tastiest in the world - and I've had samosas in many lands.

@Petter I do miss spicy Kenyan samosas! But It seems @hankster is quite partial to pancakes. 😜
