When Pinochet was murdering people by throwing them out of helicopters over the Pacific Ocean and it seemed nobody could stop him, it took a thousand mothers and grandmothers of the disappeared to show up in front of the presidential palace and just stand there. They blocked traffic for several days, the police wouldn't touch them, the military wouldn't touch them, the traffic went in other directions - their message was plain - Pinochet Must Leave. He went into exile in Spain.
