I guess this applies to all parents, guardians, and mentors in any capacity.
I think I disagree to some extent, and I should stress 'some extent', as I have found that the biggest wrong turn people make when trying to 'help' others is that they do not recognize that what someone else may truly need can be very different from what you think they SHOULD need. Assistance can only be effective if it comes in a way that the recipient can process and utilize it productively.
