Hello Mayor! You can change any 3 things about the city you live in. What are they?

Here are mine:

  1. Education funding- better supplies & teacher salaries (not funded by tax increases).
  2. Infrastructure- our roads are CRAP. We need less of them in the country areas (it's costing a lot to maintain) and we need to take that $$$ and put it in the ones that are used regularly.
  3. Our prisons are too full. It's costing us a ton that could go other places. People are serving long terms for petty crimes.

How about you?

Education

Housing

I would also reform the prison system to actually improve the prisoners to make them capable of living a normal life with the skills to get a job and understand the consequences of their actions.

These are all things that could be beneficial in the future.

Retire a lot of the "Good 'ole boys" from county positions.

Organize trash pick-up all over town, and levy stricter fines for littering. It's bad !

No more prayers before public events !

  1. Condemn then torch every church a member of which expresses a religious opinion in a public forum related to civic affairs.
  2. Remove bibles and any reference to deities from public buildings, pledges or oaths of office.
  3. Charge property and other municipal taxes to churches that are imposed on anyone and everyone else.

I like your suggestions. Only for # 2, I think I would insist on putting in an efficient public transit system, as well as repairing the roads.

I live in one of the two states which have the largest percentage of population incarcerated. I saw a news report recently on the release of some inmates in the county jail. I wonder if the distinction of having so many citizens in jail has had an affect on the politicians?

Good ideas silvereyes, especially 1 and 3.

  1. After school and weekend jobs or volunteering for high school kids. Gives them something to do to stay out of trouble.

  2. There are programs in schools for smart kids. There needs to be something for the trouble makers too. I'll have to think about what to offer. Maybe something like big brothers, big sisters. Sometimes the trouble makers are from unstable homes.

  3. Decriminalize drugs. Throwing addicts in jail isn't the answer. The same money we spend to house them in jail could be spent on rehabilitation. Bonus: Police can spend time handling real crime instead of confiscating plants and pills.

  1. Transportation -- too damned many cars and traffic congestion. Years ago I lived in Berlin Germany for a few years and that city had a superb transportation system -- busses, subways, elevated trains and most of the time one did not need a car.

  2. Lots of open green space -- people need that for a variety of reasons.

  3. Integrity and honesty in government.

The RENT! OMG, the rents are insane. That would take up my top three...

Chattown (Chattanooga) #1 Public education is dismal, #2 Don't hide the homeless and needy, help them, #3 Make the entire city pedestrian and bicycle friendly

2

(1) Full budget review to seek out cost savings, (2) roll savings into emergency fund, staggered investments, and low-interest small business loans, and (3) have weekly screenings of old science fiction shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Farscape, and Babylon 5.

#3 is priceless.

We have a lot of new businesses and construction in my community. All the east and west traffic is congested. My community access road is clogged with traffic between 4:30 and 6:30.

  1. Reroute traffic to another road.

We have a lot of casinos in our area. They are suppose to pay teachers and utilities.
2. Show where the money is going to.

  1. Use some of that casino money to reduce property taxas.

Our stste is known as the sportsman paradise.
4. There needs to be more area's on the side of the road so we can fish, crab, and shrimp.

Theres a lot of single parents (females) that would like to work but can't afford day care.
5. It would be nice to have free government day care for these persons.

If they took every 10th single parent household and gave the head of that household a job providing day care for the other 9 a lot of jobs would be created and more people could be released from the day to day of child rearing to find a job.

I definitely agree with #3 but I wonder how you would get your food if there were poor rural roads?Teachers need to be paid more and shouldnt be expected to buy student supplies out of their pocket. We should be teaching kids how to grow their own food and other practical things that used to be taught in home ec and shop.

wonder if they put those roads in for future development, in which case I would be for rehabbing the cities and suburbs that have already gobbled up too much agricultural land

My city just voted two referendums: funding preschool education for the poor and expanding our zoo. Both were voted down, but all the Democrats were elected. Idk, liberal, but greedy?
