I am devastated... Rest In Peace RBG
Regarding Ginsburg's replacement, Lisa Murkowski's position is correct.
[alaskapublic.org]
Lisa Murkowski is changing her tune and Trumps new conservative judge will be confirmed without her vote anyway.
@Trajan61 The GOP's rush to name a replacement is a tactical error for two reasons:
She will be greatly missed.
A part of me is concerned that this may bump up Trumps poll numbers. After he appoints a new justice hat will make six conservative justices, three of which Trump will have appointed.
If Biden wins and the Democrats can prevent orange blob piece=of-shit from stealing the election, there is a possibility of impeaching- and removing- kavanaugh. Look up Glenn Kirschner on youtube.
@HumanistJohn Trump’s going to win and he will be president for 4 more years so you might as well get used to him. And he’s also going to be successful in getting his conservative judge appointed to the Supreme Court.
NO! If he isn't a fascist, he's damn near close to being one.
I will never get used to that lying sack of shit.
he wants to be like putin and be one of the oligarchs who steals the country blind.
And as far as a court nominee is concerned, noscow mitch (another sack of shit who is sitting on legislation passed by the House) wouldn't even hold a hearing for Obama's nominee because it was an election year. gutless graham, along with other repugs, said that if there was a court vacancy in 2020, the senate should wait for the next president to nominate someone. Of course, he lied.
Don't you understand that tRump wants to be a dictator? What is your damn problem?
Also, orange blob knew that this virus was deadly and was air borne and could affect anyone. but ob said that it was a democratic hoax. he's a damn liar- and over 200,000 Americans died. Don't you give a damn either?
@HumanistJohn Evidently you have drank to much of the liberal koolaid!
@Trajan61 Or maybe YOU drank too much of the conservative kool-aid.
I was a republican until 1985, at which time I thought republicans were abandoning their values and ethics. I was brought up to believe in values like those in the 0956 Eisenhower platform. The republicans have abandoned virtually all of those values. They are not the party they once were... at all.
Then they democrats values have only gotten better over my life time.
I've paid attention to the changes int he parties over time and am not just an ideologue who will support my party no matter what (as the republicans have done with Trump). My values don't change when my party changes theirs. Can you say the same?
@snytiger6 The democrat party has drifted sharply to the left especially since Obama was elected. No my values have not changed but those of the democrat party have definitely changed with their support for the racist group BLM and their embracing things like open borders, socialism, allowing criminals to vote, and defunding the police. Not to mention their radical green new deal which is embraced by idiots like AOC and a host of others.
@HumanistJohn Obama was the one who acted like a dictator. Hell he enacted thousands of looney regulations and Trump has done away with a lot of them. How in the hell is that acting like a dictator?
@Trajan61 How about the long list of actions Trump took which have been overturned by the courts, because he didnt' really have the authority to do them?... for a start. To date Trump has made more executive orders than Obama had. [washingtontimes.com]
@Trajan61 The Washington Times leans to the right in their coverage.
You are probably thinking of the Washington Post, which has a long history of good journalism. The Post became a journal of repute when they published The Pentagon Papers, which were stolen form the Rand Corporation (by somebody else). Since that time, despite fair reporting, they have had a reputation for beign left leaning.
The issue is when actual facts get reported, it make the right wing look bad. So any media outlet that publishes actual facts (in their proper context) are said to be left leaning. So, the Washington Post and the New York Times are characterized as beign left leaning, when they are just practicing journalistic ethics... reporting the actual facts in the proper context.
The Hearst owned papers which played fast and loose with the facts in the 20th century to increase circulation, were right leaning and for them they created the term "yellow Journalism" to refer to sensationalized news and (deliberately) sloppy journalism. Fox News has taken yellow journalism to television. Rupert Murdock made his fortune in tabloids and Fox plays fast and loose with the facts and more often than not if theyu provide facts they are out of proper context.
@Trajan61 If you tracked both partied from 1980, the Republicans have moved to the far right and the democrats overall also moved to the right, fallowing the republicans. There are a few far left democrats who seem to get the headlines, but democrats over all generally are further right than Reagan was.
Granted the right wing has gone much further right than Reagan, so democrats that by 1980's standards would seem to be in the political middle, now seem like far left to republicans who are about to step over the line into Fascism.
Rest in peace, RBG. And thank you for your service on the Court.
Dems and independents must do what's necessary to impede a right wing nut job nomination much less confirmation of a replacement. It's less than 40 days to the election, Merrick Garland was not even interviewed by republicans for a year with the excuse of "too close to the elections to see what the people will is" yet since they are the worst hypocrites ever and they know a blue wave is coming, they will as always try to steamroll someone. Now, this makes it even more abundantly clear that if dems get back the senate and Biden wins, it is imperative Congress changes the number of justices and makes the appointments not lifetime. The former packing is simple, the Constitution established the Supreme Court, but says nothing about its size. As such, changing the number of seats on the court requires nothing more than passing a piece of legislation through both houses of Congress and having the president sign it. Although often referred to as "radical" proposal, court packing isn't a new idea, and it's been done before. Republicans packed the court during the Civil War in 1863, temporarily increasing the number of justices to 10, and Franklin Roosevelt attempted unsuccessfully to pack the court in 1937 but southern democrats didn't want to. Lifetime appointments is slightly more complicated to change because it would require a constitutional amendment. But as we all know the purpose of lifetime appointments was to keep politics out of the justices. It has never worked. A change is needed and the time is ripe, now or never!
its gonna be a battle and we have to fight
only other option if biden wins is to add 2 justices
@whiskywoman that is exactly what I mean by packing the court.
@whiskywoman A radical move like that might lead to civil war.
She was mortal, just like the rest of us. Yes, I am sad at her passing, but my main concern is that SCOTUS will now be taken by Donald Trump in another lurch towards a right-wing theocracy.
For calling yourself anglophone, seems you're not that savvy on comprehending english. The poster said rest in peace, nobody said she is or was inmortal. Plus, captain obvious, we're all concerned on her replacement before the likely blue wave takes over in 2021.
Of course she was mortal, and she has been battling pancreatic cancer for many years. Yes, we ALL knew she would pass on one day, but we certainly didn't want her to go now.
It breaks my heart for her and just the thought of a Ruth less Supreme Court fills me with dread.
I bet trump and moscow mitch already plotting to replace her asap before the elections
Mcconnell has already said that he will push it through the senate. I'm ready to go to Washington DC and do everything I can to keep the senate out of session. I'm not sure what we could do but I think we need to try.
I wonder who Trump will nominate?
Some right-wing Christian nutjob, no doubt.
that idiot cruz is on the list what a disaster that would be
Definitely not an independent constitutionalist or a liberal democrat.
@whiskywoman
What? How can that be? Was he a judge at one time??
@whiskywoman, @Mofo1953
An Independent Constitutionalist would be the perfect choice.
@bigpawbullets not gonna happen
@bigpawbullets he is not independent he is a highly paid traitor
@whiskywoman
I just saw the list. 4 ladies and one man.... not Cruz.
@bigpawbullets its a shit storm everyone assumes they know what each justice is gonna vote and if they are true justices we have to hope) they will go with the merits of the case trump brings and he will fight tooth and nail until barr declares martial law and they try and take over forcfully
@bigpawbullets None of them could be ladies if trump likes them.
