We need to develop mastery of bacteriophage therapy in the U. S. but drug companies aren't motivated... who can we rely on? No one?

Have you heard of these guys:

(Sorry, I don’t know why the visual is like that, but the link is still working).

It seems a lot of research is happening worldwide, some of it simply for food safety. If I were you I’d be hoping another Country makes the break through, at least that way the prices might not be ramped up to make them rich only meds.

Bacteriophage theory? America is still not over burning the witches who challenged miasmatic theory.

We need to plan and implement a way to make Big Pharma work for us rather than the other way around. Please don't ask me how.

@EarnestEccentric Brother, you will get no argument from me on that. It is high time everyone's enfranchisement consisted of more than just a vote, although for the next two weeks I will be satisfied if everyone who is eligible to vote can.

@EarnestEccentric rejection of socialism is just the recognition that your party elects incompetent fools unable to run government any better than the failing businesses they left to seek government handouts for.

@EarnestEccentric no disagreement here. It's a duopoly with only one goal - staying in power which begats wealth. There's more money to be made in a disaster scenario - it is an easy time to siphon off hundreds of billions from the government - from we the people - and also seize more power.

@EarnestEccentric yes and they don't think the government to do anything efficiently and be trustworthy - except the very department with guns that is charged, among other things, with killing people, and spending hundreds of billions of dollars. So either they admit the military isn't run as well as they think (lets face it we know there are multiple issues with the military being a cash cow for States and the industrial military complex), or they admit the government can run things as efficiently as they want.

Or maybe they think killing people is easy, but keeping them safe and healthy is impossible. Oh, unless it is a private business - in which case there is some magic "market" thing you can sprinkle on anywhere and everything just works. Except when it doesn't. Theranos anyone? Thalidamide anyone? Drug prices anyone? And too many other "free market" tragic errors, deliberate fraud, and massive un-acted upon cartels that plague they current system.

But the point is, no matter what the need, if you can point to one thing you think the government is spending and managing wisely, it can do it elsewhere. There is still free market and capitalism in the military world despite our military being run "by the government". The same can happen for healthcare.

So maybe they don't trust the government to control their healthcare - except they want it to control what they can do with their bodies. When they can reproduce, when they can decide to end their life, and they are happy to have government controlled people killing thousands without any judicial oversight, and they are happy for the government to allow disease, pollution, and environmental catastrophe to rampage through the country - things they on their own have no control over but very much affect their life expectancy and outcomes.

Makes. No. Sense.
