American Conservatives attempt to bridge that gap, primarily by trying to redefine science.
For example somehow the "Big Bang" is evolution.
Their strength is in their conviction that their ignorance is better than centuries of meticulous work and deep study.

What's religion, if not "The Easy Way Out?"
Let's think on that...old men in rich robes can do terrible things to children. All they need to do is ''sincerely atone'', rattle some beads and....bingo! Pure as snow again.
Don't want to bother with those pesky science books? Here...read the babblings of itinerant shepherds....magic's more fun than science any day!
Afraid to imagine death? Just sing the sacred psalms and....it's a straight shot to paradise!
