They can but the breed of bird is not as good as others probably for growth rates, tenderness or flavour.
Male chicks can be eaten eventually, but they are not as cheap, quick and easy to rear and fatten.

So I'm hearing that cocks make no economic sense and are pretty much good for nothing.
After watching the first segment of 60 Minutes tonight I'm inclined to agree.
