First skip the golf ball across the water...
I'm trying to figure out how you'd intentionally skip a ball across a pond. Even a 1-iron has some loft. Ha, ha.
I know they have a lot more control than I ever did, but can they intentionally mis-hit a shot to skim along the ground(water)? That's impressive.
I do know that there are weird situations everywhere in golf. When I played in high school, we went to Williams, AZ. At the time they had a strange little 9-hole course.
There was so little water in the area that the fairways had more rocks than grass. You always borrowed a couple of the oldest clubs you could find to play there because you knew they would get beat up during the round.
And it didn't matter how good a shot you hit, it often might hit a rock and bounce straight sideways into the woods. Lol.
They also had powdered cinders instead of grass on their 'greens'. When you got on the 'green' the house rule was to pick your ball up and pace the distance to the hole. Then pace out the distance on a path you'd drag (they had pipes on sticks for the purpose) and putt along the path.
The ninth hole was a 300-yd par 3 . It wasn't difficult to reach because it went straight down the side of a small mountain. A 7-iron could get there easily. Ah, the good old days.
Sounds like he might have been trying to copy Vijay Singh and pulled it off: [insider.com]
@girlwithsmiles
I watched the video and it looked like a pretty normal swing with a mid iron -- 7 or so. He seemed to pull off a little at the end maybe.
Again, that's more control than I can imagine.
I mostly only remember Vijay from that James Bond movie. I don't remember how he would hit a flat shot. Ha, ha.
Edit: I was thinking of the wrong Vijay(as if you didn't already know). I was thinking of Vijay Amritraj.Oops.
@RichCC itβs available from all angles on youtube, pretty impressive:
