He demonstrated that any kind of proceeding can be turned into an ideological witch-hunt if you care about nothing but that.

What I keep wondering is how people like him and his lot keep getting elected, it seems like a con, invoke God and get people to vote against there own self interest, most conservatives are like that

That is his problem. It is always a performance. I really don't believe he has a sincere bone in his body.
