Nailed it.
How do I know if I am on the right side of history?
Large numbers of our population believe in a complete alternate reality. Alternate facts as it were.
But just as intensely as I believe they are deluded, they think I am the one who is deluded. Maybe I am. So how can I be confident in my perception? It can be quite difficult.
But, I have found that in times of political confusion, particularly when emotions are running high and creating tunnel vision, the presence of Nazis can be an extremely helpful indicator.
If I am attending or watching a local demonstration or event and I see Nazis…neo-Nazis, miscellaneous-Nazis, master race Nazis, or the latest-whatever-uber-mythology-Nazis, I figure out which side they are on.
And if they are on my side of the demonstration? I am on the wrong side.
It is tough to argue moral equivalence when I am standing next to a Nazi. Look to my right. Is there a guy wearing a 6MWE (6 million wasn’t enough) t-shirt? I am on the wrong side. Look to my left. If that guy is wearing a Camp Auschwitz t-shirt? Wrong side. Are Speakers being applauded for referring to things that Hitler got right? Wrong side. Team-spirit face paint and hat with animal horns? This is actually an unclear indicator that could mean anything, but safest to keep my distance from that guy, even at a football game.
However, I can always, always, always rely on the presence of Nazis as a guiding light through a fog of disinformation.
Some things are relative, and politics can absolutely have its opposing sides and grey areas.
But evil and good are absolute. As are the lessons of history. So, just look for the Nazis, and make your own decisions.
To be clear most people that dress as Shaman aren’t Nazis. In fact only one comes to mind.
To be clear it should be a personal matter and never in public, not even at an insurrection.
Lady, please turn around.
@St-Sinner
Sure
@Willow_Wisp
Ha ha, Wild! I like it, Now tie me up.
@St-Sinner
More travel would be nice, like Norway.
Hard to go go when up to your neck in pandemic.
Awesome background view. I grew up in 100 degrees for the most part of the year. I have a fascination for fog, snow and mountains covered with snow.
@St-Sinner Another angle then... Norway.
Sadly there's no water to dive into, and if there were you'd just be a grease spot floating on the surface after that kind of dive.
Awesome, but it looks like a video game, so unreal
@St-Sinner
I love desolate locations all over the world, like Greenland.
The crew on the aircraft perished ages ago.
Yes, desolate but harsh, difficult too? I like exotic but enjoyable and comfortable.
I have a question. Please think and don't answer impulsively.
History of the last four years is not written yet, judgement of history is not passed. We called them Nazis, they called Obama Hitler. You said half of the country is like that. They think the same as we do... the other side is wrong, is extreme. It is true we listen to liberal media, they listen to conservative media. A very very few avoid both and only follow 'only' independent media.
So what makes us so confident that we are right? Just our strong opinions? There are conservative groups right here on Agnostic and they think we are wrong, we are extreme. Who is right? Can 50% of a society be totally wrong?
Christianity is provably wrong, so yes, 50% of a society can be totally wrong (or whatever percentage it is). And, as we see the large overlap of Christianity with the Right Wing, we can have confidence that they are not just wrong, but delusional. In contrast, a population seeking truth and based on science is as correct as that science.
Hold on, don't declare victory so confidently yet.
Is it a universal view that religion is wrong? What makes you think you have a better wisdom than 5 billion people which is 85% of the world population?
Remember only a very small population does not believe in what we believe in. We are right in our world for now, not beyond.
I never said 50%, I said large numbers. I don't even have TV, I read mostly and tend to vet my sources by mediabiasfactcheck.com. But I will stand by my statement of those wearing 6mwe or camp auschwitz shirts being on the wrong side.
I don't think all conservatives nor all liberals are extreme, but the preponderance of violent acts being done by far right individuals is able to be verified. And the fact that the far right is the side with Nazis, skinheads, etc is telling to many of us.
@St-Sinner Science may not have all the answers, but the answers it does have work, unlike the entirely iffy prostration and prayer recommended by religion. Science may have it's dogmas, but by definition, only commits to them as far as they can be proven to work, or are otherwise reproduced. By definition, they may be, and sometimes are, superseded. The Nazis believed they were the master race, but had zero science and zero truth to back them up. Perhaps history will be written by the victors, but how long can those victors enjoy survival if they are stuck in the bronze age? What really matters, in the context of our pathetic subjective experience, is truth, and that is the yardstick science uses.
I am not a right winger, nor a supporter of Neo-Nazis or Trump. But I don't hold the holier-than-thou approach. I do not start declaring we are good and the other side is wrong and rotten.
We are declaring here that we are right, we are virtuous, we take the high road and the other side is wrong and on the wrong side of the history. Bernie supporters said the same thing when they were possessed by socialism, now they are quiet after their hero crashed and burned for the second time. We are not always right. What I am telling you is the other side is saying the same thing. Just visit conservative groups on this platform and you'll know how much they despise the ultra-progressive, liberal issues and values. We don't know it all and we certainly are not holier than them. We have fallen many times, our leaders have been rotten , our issues have failed and you know well that we are good at losing. It is all not a fluke. There are reasons for these results. Moreover, you cannot be the plaintiff, the lawyers, the jury, the judge and issue a verdict that we are all right and the other wide is all wrong. We do not get to decide it, the time does, the history does.
Each side has valid arguments and good issues. Nobody is right on everything. Democrats have good issues like compassion, openness, voting rights, civil rights, equality, fairness, not succumbing to religion etc. while the conservatives are right on strong defense, smaller government, controlled and merit based immigration, voter ID, fiscal conservatism etc. We can both learn from each other.
I will never declare I am right and they are on the wrong side of the history. How do you know what the history is already? It is recent events and the history is not written yet.
