...The Pew researchers asked people in several other countries if being a Christian was important when it came to national identity. It won’t surprise you that several European countries were less likely to think that’s true. It also won’t surprise you that younger people were less likely to think Christianity was a relevant factor in being a True Whatever than older generations — every single country on the list showed that difference.

After you’ve been through two major wars I would think your ability to believe in gods of any kind would be seriously limited. Even when we lived in France n 1960 the parents rarely went to church. They would send the kids by themselves. That generally has a diminishing affect on the kids beliefs.

There are quite big differences between European countries in that survey ...the one that is a real surprise is Spain which used to be the most Catholic country in the world at one time...that’s a bigger surprise than the USA being more religious than most of Europe.
