LINK Some Catholics Are Eating Plant-Based Burgers to Avoid Eating “Meat” on Fridays | Hemant Mehta | Friendly Atheist | Patheos

From the article...

For Catholics who celebrated Lent yesterday, they’re also supposed to abstain from eating meat on Fridays until Easter. (Hey, don’t ask me to explain religious logic.)

But that rule raises an interesting question: What if a practicing Catholic eats a plant-based burger?

It’s like Baptists drinking grape juice instead of wine for communion. The sin is in the details, not the appearance.

That wouldn’t be the weirdest thing I’ve heard about Catholics this month.

It's made from soy, not flesh, but a more interesting question might be: Can they eat meat made from cells grown in a lab, and not from an animal? Scientists are starting to do this now as a way to eliminate the suffering and pollution from animal factory farming (not that Catholics are especially big on science).

What kind of meat do priests eat during lent. Nun.

What’s the question? If it’s vegetarian, it’s not meat even if it’s called a burger.

I suppose the question is, not if you are losing the meat from your diet, but if you are losing the abstinance and hardship from your lifestyle.
