LINK Why the Democratic Party can never be reformed - World Socialist Web Site

"The Democratic Party ranks, alongside the Tories in England, as the oldest capitalist political party in the world. This decade, it will enter into its third century of existence, carrying behind it a record of great social crimes.

In its infancy, this was the party of Andrew Jackson and Indian Removal, in its childhood it fought a war for the expansion and then defense of slavery. Its young adulthood was the violent suppression of the working class in the aftermath of the Civil War and a “humanitarian” cover for American imperialism’s bloody appearance on the world stage. Entering maturity in the 20th century, the Democratic Party launched two world wars, dropped two nuclear bombs and waged neocolonial wars in Korea and Vietnam. In the 21st century, it replaced social reform with identity politics, bailed out the banks and destroyed large swaths of the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia.

In 2021, the Democratic Socialists of America still argue that socialism can only come from within this capitalist party. They say: elect good Democrats, place good people in the cogs of this party’s machinery, and all will be well. Apply enough pressure and after 200 years, the Democrats will finally see the divine light!"

And the Republicans were the party of Lincoln. They have changed totally and hugely for the worse. Andrew Jackson was an aggressive, authoritarian libertarian, and never really a Democrat in the true sense of the word. As a proud Democrat, I am happy to renounce him and his early influence on the party Jackson was much more similar to the extreme nationalistic and libertarian right of today.

The Civil Rights Act caused many Blue Dog Dems in the South to switch to the GOP. Bill Clinton's triangulation steered the Democratic Party towards GOP-Lite.

My loyalties are largely to policies over parties. That's often hard to do with the winner-take-all duopoly, but not calling out Dem shortcomings certainly will not help.

It is still worthwhile examining the historical record in order to make course corrections. The GQP is fraudulent in trying to cloak themselves with the mantle of Lincoln, and Dems have ceased being the party of labor and the working class for the most part.

Nothing new here, just confirmation of everything I already knew in my bones about how the nomination was rigged and that even Bernie was complicit this time in handing the nomination to Biden. The whole nominating process is a charade these days and I will never participate again in a Dem caucus. Next time it will be AOC playing Bernie's role as the fake progressive challenger to whoever the party leaders have already selected, most likely Harris.

Capitalism demands markets to exploit to sustain the level of profits necessary to attract investment. Tech advances combined with egalitarian measures dry those markets up. The 2 areas are mutually antagonistic. Thus, you either choose the slower growth of smaller civilizations or the advanced growth with more "casualties" ... OR ... you agree to a hybrid with checks on either side. But to agree with the hybrid requires acknowledging the necessity of BOTH sides and not a domination of either. Taking away the voting power and sovereignty of the individual through Citizens United and all this suppression legislation is an indicator that advanced growth has become too powerful.
