This chapter began in the early 1980s when the GOP needed more voters. Without first counting the evangelicals, the National GOP invited them to join the Party. If you were there you may have heard it said that the evangelicals would be unable to compromise.
Tney took over many state parties and the National GOP, happily for non-theists, gave them nothing.
In 2008 the Dems elected Obama and the evangelical whites exploded. In 2016 the demagogue Trump organized them and took over the National GOP.
