Four Black men wrongly charged with rape were exonerated Monday, more than 70 after being convicted of what prosecutors now say were baseless charges.
Why it matters: Prosecutors said the case against the men, who all died before it was re-examined by Florida officials, "lacked due process and would not be tried today," the New York Times reports.
The only thing that matters is what is learned by the injustice. I take the lesson that the burning insistence of being right blocks out all institutional attempts to keep injustices from happening. People get the egotistic anger up against someone(s) and there's very little hope of having a good life. Those who are "different" than the mob are almost always the victims so the fact of race may not be as significant as it seems. They were different by skin color but the over-riding motivation for going after them was ego and protectionism. Those are human traits which never get old.
Sure did them a lot of good! Are they going to compensate the families? What about the hundreds that were lynched or tar and feathered for some imaginary crime? There would be plaques all over the south and mid west. And it wouldn’t bring Justice to any of them or change the lives of their killers.
