Former President Donald Trump's Scottish golf resorts have claimed more than $4 million in UK emergency money as the struggling businesses furloughed hundreds of staff members amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Newly published company accounts for the two international resorts revealed the Trump Turnberry in Ayrshire and Trump International Scotland near Aberdeenshire cut 273 jobs in 2020, while also claiming $3.7 million in furlough support.
That's my bloody tax money he's taking!
Trump International is almost cut off from Aberdeen now, thanks to road improvements and has suffered from Storms Arwen and Barra recently bringing hurricane force winds destroying property and downing trees in some sort of irony for climate change denial!
Locally there isn't much in the way of employment with the downturn of oil and Brexit killing off fish and farming across Aberdeenshire.
There is a small success story though. Just outside Trump International is a small prosperous car repair garage run by a family of fairly orthodox Muslims. They are a little bit of Afghanistan/Pakistan in rural Aberdeenshire. I imagine Trump has attempted to shift these away from his front entrance.
I thought it was very funny when the young lasses got off the 68 bus dressed in traditional Afghan/Pakistani clothing and their similarly attired friends still on the bus would strip their's off down to t-shirts, hoodies and jeans applying makeup the moment they were out of sight!
Baseball and football/soccer are favorite blue-collar sports.
Taking taxpayers’ money is a favorite white collar sport. For instance, subsidies for bailing out bankruptcies, aka socialism for capitalists.
In Aberdeenshire, golf is as much a blue collar sport as white. At least the ground under his Scottish courses belong to the 'Crowne' who holds it in trust and stewardship for the Scots.
Trump doesn't appear to understand this wee qwerk of Scots Law. The hint is in the country's name, Scotland or land of the Scots. It was until recently still very Feudal.
Not at all surprised…I’m sure he wasn’t the only one cheating the system designed to help struggling businesses.
Businesses here did the same, including religious organizations.
