Even though this was a local state issue I’ll bet it applies to most of the other states as well. Washington State Supreme Court just ruled about what is known as racial covenants in home titles Wash. I suspect the elimination of such covenants is an attempt to white wash bigotry. [krem.com]
The history does need to be preserved and I am pleased that an individual property owner can have it voided. Many places around the country did these kinds of covenants.
The individual property can not have it voided. I think there was a misunderstanding. Problem is, none of us owns anything outright. In the end, someone else will have use of it but when they are gone the property, and it's history remains.
@JackPedigo This business of writing this sort of shit into deeds is one of the most offensive bits of designed by real-estate developers and lenders. Our government encouraged too.
@silverotter11 Again, all about money. However, once in the titles, it cannot be erased.
The original deed to my house, built in 1953, had a non white exclusion in it.
At least you know about it.
As the home owner can you have that removed from your deed?
@silverotter11 the only reason I found out about it at all was the attorney doing our title search was a personal friend and sent us a copy of the section. It generally doesn't appear in any current documents, so as with the article, it was pretty much scrubbed even if still in the historical deed.
