A Japanese filmmaker is shaking Cannes film audiences to the core with a dystopian vision of her country in which old people agree to be euthanised to solve the challenge of a rapidly aging population.

"Plan 75" by Japanese director and writer Chie Hayakawa is based on a very real problem.

Killing off older people would not solve their aging population problem. To solve that issue they need a much higher birth rate.

Japan seems suffering at both ends of the age spectrum.

And here we are in America we are leaning toward forcing people to give birth. Definitely a different perspective. Wow - 75 isn't old yet! That's when most of us finally get wise enough to share some wisdom!
