The brain damage caused by intense religious belief stunts both normal sexual development and empathic capability (and much more). This damage results in a significant shift in sexual proclivities, and indifference to the pain of others. Those suffering from these defects feel guilt when faced with how their behavior (real or imagined) is scorned in scripture. This guilt is then projected outward, seeking to place the blame for negative feelings on the flock, or on the outside world.

It is the height of irony that the same homophobia that made its way into scripture ends up increasing the behavior that it excoriates.

However, homosexuality is not the same as pedophilia, about which scriptures say much less. Shame on the authors of scripture for claiming to be teaching and seeking love, but cruelly rejecting homosexuality. The failure to accept homosexual love as a form of love is one of the strongest arguments against Christianity.
