Scientists just detected a bus-sized asteroid that will fly extremely close to Earth tonight
56K miles is VERY close to Earth.
I drove that much this week
I don't think it matters too much if it did hit. From what I understand asteroids have to be miles wide to pose a significant threat, and something the size of a bus would probably just burn up completely in the atmosphere or have a very minor effect.
Not sure how much that changes based on relative speed, angle of impact etc.
Can’t some solar wind nudge it over a few thousand miles?
Not the wind, but the sunlight: [solarsystem.nasa.gov]
