Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton 
sued the Biden administration over federal rules that require abortions be provided in medical emergencies to save the life of the mother, even in states with near-total bans.
(That is a step too far. If republicans insist on not allowing abortions to save a woman's life, then they have already lost the long fight. In the meantime republicans will cause a great deal of chaos.)

Since the law is from 86, I believe that they want to fight it up to the current scrotus and get a Dredd Scott like ruling against women so states can keep "their" women confined.
