In the run-up to the 1970 election won by Allende, the C.I.A. conducted “spoiling operations” to prevent his victory while President Richard Nixon authorised the agency “to seek to instigate a coup to prevent Allende from taking office.”
Declassified has revealed that Britain also conducted a covert propaganda offensive to stop Allende winning the 1964 and 1970 elections.

My attention was held by the following statement: >
After the fall of Pinochet’s dictatorship in 1990, a truth commission confirmed that during his 17-year rule more than 40,000 people were tortured, 3,200 were killed or “disappeared” and more than 200,000 fled into exile.
Though Labour and Conservative policy differed towards Pinochet, the recently declassified record sheds a new light on the claim that Labour sought to promote an ethical foreign policy towards Chile. It was under Wilson’s first administration that Britain’s covert propaganda offensive against Allende began.
British officials not only welcomed Chile’s dictatorship in 1973 – they spent a decade helping to create the conditions that brought it to power, and played a material role in destroying Chilean democracy for a generation. DM <
History repeats in 2014 in Ukraine leading to the 2022 Ukraine armed conflict of Russia trying to prevent the ongoing genocide of Ukrainian Russians.
Pinochet was a monster, who avoided true justice for six years thanks to his friendship with the equally monstrous Margaret Thatcher, who described him once as " a Jolly nice Fellow"
It's a wonder that Chilean refugees were allowed into the UK.
@FrayedBear They probably would not have been if the "blessed Margaret" had still been PM in stead of the war criminal Blair
Nothing new here. It was well documented that Pinochet's thugs used the stadium to massacre protesters. One reason why visiting football teams refused to play in it.
Were you aware that the date of the junta destroying Allende was 9\11?
@FrayedBear Just a coincidence i think
@Moravian or simple woo of karma?
